Air bearing spindles are ideal for extremely high precision, small diameter machining applications. Air bearings use compressed air blown into a small gap between the spindle and the bearing surface. The spindle floats on an even cushion of compressed air. This non-contact type bearing means the spindle has a very long service life due to minimal friction and wear; it also means that the spindle generates vitually no heat or vibration. The spindle and bearing are finished with a very high-accuracy process to ensure low vibration and very high concentricity. These spindles can be used in conjunction with water as well as oil based coolants.
Notes of CAUTION - ABS series air motors require clean, dry, regulated air for proper operation.
- Never rotate the spindle, change cutting tools or collet without supplying clean, dry air to the bearing surfaces.
- Always supply the clean, dry air to the bearing surface even when the spindle is not being rotated.
- Do not begin the work process until after stable rotation has been established and verified.
