Norton Crystolon stones are made of a gray-colored, silicon-carbide abrasive baked in a furnace. This fast-cutting abrasive is softer than India and will break down faster, yet does an excellent job where moderate tolerances are desired. Consequently, Crystolon is the choice where speed of sharpening, rather than the fineness of the cutting edge is most important. These stone are popular when working with softer metals such as aluminum.
Available in Coarse (100), Medium (150), and Fine (280) grits.
